Amador Zinfandel and Amador Barbera nab top honors at SF International

Results of the prestigious San Francisco International Wine Competition were released June 29th. Among the many awards given to Amador County wines, wines made from Amador grapes won both Best Zinfandel and Best Barbera at the event.

Of the barberas entered into the competition, including entries from Italy and all over California, the top honor went to the Helwig Vineyards 2009 Barbera, Shenandoah Valley, $25.

Against 127 zinfandels tasted, the Sobon Estate 2008 Zinfandel, Lubenko Vineyard, Fiddletown, $22, won Best Zinfandel.

Amador County is renowned for it's historic zinfandel vineyards and is home of the oldest zinfandel vineyards in the country. More recently, Amador County barberas have dominated the award listings of many large wine competitions. The results of the 2011 SF International are just the latest of a string of accolades earned by wines made from Amador County grapes.
